Barb Forgash has 35+ years of dog training experience. Barb will be teaching 2 classes Puppy Kindergarden (puppies under 6 months of age) blended with Basic Home Obedience (dogs over 6 months) from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. In addtion to basic skills (including attention, controlled walking, sit, stand, down, come when called, socialization, and distraction work) , we introduce hand signals, bar/brood/high jumping. The praise method is utilized by a teacher with extensive experience. Professional pictures and graduation complete with mortarboards are included. There are lots of wagging tails; a good time is had for the handler & pup! Individual concerns are covered, as well as suggestions for appropriate animal care.
Intermediate level classes are designed for dogs who have successfully completed a dog class through the Village of Wellington, or upon teacher recommendation. The content of this program expands developement of techniques and skills covered in basic, plus off-leash work and use of advance hand signals, jumping, and drills.
Both courses are designed for the average pet owner, as well as those with interest in possible obedience competitions.
Registration is open to anyone 16+ years of age who have never titled a dog in obedience. Registration must be completed in person at the Wellingotn Community Center (12150 Forest Hill Blvd.) or Village Park Gym (11700 Pierson Road). These "active teaching" classes are 8 weeks long and will take place in between the Wellington Community Center and the Aquatics Complex, on the grass area.
